# Tasted > Tasted (https://tasted.at) is a free, mobile-first web app for eating your way through a city. It turns every place to eat in a city into one checklist — restaurants, cafés, bakeries, kebab shops, food courts, fine dining — and suggests one new place to try each day. It works the way travel apps track visited countries, but for a city's food. ## What it does - **A checklist of every place to eat in a city.** Choose a city (or let the app detect it from your location) and it loads every food venue in it. You tick places off as you visit them and see how far through the city you are: total, visited, and completion percentage. - **Today's Pick.** One unvisited place to try, labelled by meal time (breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner). It is chosen deterministically per person per day, respects the categories you turned off, prefers nearby places (Nearby Mode), and is checked against Google Places so a permanently closed venue is not suggested. - **Browse, shortlist, commit.** The pick is a deck: swipe left for the next place, swipe right to shortlist it, and press "Let's go" to choose one. - **Dessert follow-up.** After a visit, it can suggest a nearby bakery or café to round off the meal. - **Wishlist.** Places you especially want to try are prioritised by the daily pick. ## What counts as a place In: restaurants, cafés, fast food, kebab shops, bakeries and pâtisseries, ice cream parlours, food courts, fine dining, Michelin venues, and bars or pubs that explicitly serve food. Out: bars and pubs that do not say they serve food, coffee-bean shops, delis and chocolate shops. Categories: restaurant, café, fast food, kebab, bakery, fine dining, pizza, sushi, food court, Michelin, bar. ## Data - Venues come from OpenStreetMap and are refreshed periodically. Google Places is used to fill gaps and to check that the day's pick is still open. - The dataset is deliberately uncurated. A venue nobody has mapped can be missing; searching for it asks the place provider once, and users can suggest a place for review. - Ratings and prices come only from the place provider and are shown only for the one venue being suggested. Tasted never invents a rating, price or description, and does not rank venues against each other. ## Privacy - No account is needed; progress is stored against an anonymous identity. Connecting a Google account only makes that progress survive a new device. - There are no public profiles, leaderboards, reviews or social features. Your progress is visible only to you. ## Languages and cities - English and Lithuanian. - Any city can be chosen. A city nobody has opened before is loaded on first selection. - Links can name a city and a language: `https://tasted.at/?city=vilnius&lang=lt` opens Vilnius directly for a first-time visitor. ## Pages - [Home](https://tasted.at/): start here. Detect or choose your city. - [About Tasted](https://tasted.at/about): what the app is, with frequently asked questions. - [Restaurant picker](https://tasted.at/restaurant-picker): "where should I eat?" — how the daily pick, the swipe deck and the shortlist work. It is one steady pick a day, not a random generator. - [Restaurant tracker](https://tasted.at/restaurant-tracker): the checklist of every place to eat in a city, progress, stats and the wishlist. - [City guides](https://tasted.at/city): every city Tasted has loaded, with a page per city (e.g. https://tasted.at/city/vilnius) and per category (e.g. https://tasted.at/city/vilnius/pizza) listing every place to eat, alphabetically, from OpenStreetMap. Nothing is ranked. New cities appear automatically. - Lithuanian versions of all four: [/lt](https://tasted.at/lt), [/lt/about](https://tasted.at/lt/about), [/lt/restaurant-picker](https://tasted.at/lt/restaurant-picker), [/lt/restaurant-tracker](https://tasted.at/lt/restaurant-tracker).
